Day 1

This blog is dedicated to my experiences travelling and designing textiles in India, Delhi.

After a 12 hour plane ride whereby I watched Home Alone 2 twice, and woke up to a baby grabbing my arm, we finally arrived at our hotel in New Delhi. We were greeted with fresh fruit and water. Two things I have grown to greatly appreciate.

Maddy and I were awoken by a construction worker gathering poles beside our window at 3am. Turns out it was just the blind blowing in the wind... Life in India.

On Friday we woke up, walked 5 metres, sat down and ate breakfast. Life in Delhi is great. We took a taxi to the markets where we got to explore the textile shops and source our fabrics for the next two weeks. It was honestly the most incredible experience. There were levels upon levels of fabrics. Everything imaginable was there and at an absolute ridiculous low price).

After wandering off on my own for a bit, a delightful man assisted me in selecting some fabrics. He offered me tea and a smile. And then offered to show me some special fabrics down in the basement. I politely declined, but he kept insisting. After the battle for my survival from this now obviously dangerous man I made my way to the exit. Only to see a sign reading "Basement" pointing to the stairs to the lower level. India 1, Jess 0.
